Stanton, Upton Rumor Round-Up

Over the weekend, there were two major rumors that slipped out about the Padres. The rumors were both previously speculated on If I Were GM before they slipped out, and both rumors are potential blockbuster trade rumors. The hypothetical deals involve Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton and Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton.

Deal A:
Giancarlo Stanton to the Padres

I recently mentioned the Padres should go after the young slugger, and Bill Center of the UT has reported the Miami Marlins have contacted the Padres about a potential Stanton trade. The deal would likely involve infielder Jedd Gyorko and outfielder Rymer Liriano. I already wrote about a potential Stanton trade a couple days ago.

Deal B:
Justin Upton for Chase Headley

Around the trade deadline, I suggested this. (The deal in looks very similar to what I suggested...)
Ken Rosenthal has reported that the Padres and Diamondbacks have been involved in off and on discussions about a potential Chase Headley-Justin Upton swap, but the Padres were the one's who said they would like to keep Headley. The deal is very interesting and says a lot about how high we value Chase Headley and how low Justin Upton's value really is. Upton is considerably younger, under control one more season, and has a better track record. Headley is a Kevin Towers guy (and a Josh Byrnes guy too), and Upton was an old Byrnes guy, so you never know! Despite this, the deal has a very slim chance of happening due to the Padres not wanting to deal Headley.
