Dan Haren Almost Traded

Dan Haren has been a center of speculation for quite a while. The 32-year old California native finished 7th in CY Young voting in 2011, and then had a down year in 2012. According to baseball reference's player rater, Dan Haren is the 213th best pitcher of all time. Haren had a 15.5 million dollar option for 2013, and the Angels were close to sending Haren to Chicago late last night in exchange for closer Carlos Marmol, who can't throw a strike. The deal would have provided the Angels with another back end of the bullpen option and the Cubs with a very reliable starter to fill the number two slot. The deal fell through and the Angels were forced to decline his option, as they are wanting to resign ace Zach Grienke. The other suitors that have been speculated or displayed interest in the trade were the Red Sox and Padres. The deal fell through and Haren's option was declined. The perfect landing spot? Why don't we think? Where is a great pitchers park, close to his California home, has ties with Haren, good weather, and needs starting pitching? The Padres have the money and and all that. The Dodgers also have most of that, but they are going hard after Zach Grienke. All in all, something could be wrong with Haren, as he is a very strong rebound candidate, and on a one year deal he could be of great value, but the Cubs supposedly were the team that said no, even though it would have only cost the 2-5 million dollars for Haren. The whole fiasco is very interesting.
