Jorge Cantu

Supposedly the Padres are the front runner to sign Jorge Cantu as depth for first and third base. Cantu is a decent player and will be a great addition to our line-up and a very solid piece. He would finish our very good offseason. Our line-up at its best(interleague play):
RF Will Venable(.290 30HR 30SB GG)
SS Jason Bartlett(.321 8HR 21SB)
2B Orlando Hudson(.280 8HR 8SB)
1B Brad Hawpe(.297 27HR 100RBI)
LF Ryan Ludwick(.240 29HR 110RBI)
3B Chase Headley(.280 20HR GG)
C Nick Hundley(.270 18HR)
CF Cam Maybin(.277 20HR 40SB)
Pitcher
Wow no real holes in that line up(no Tony Gwynn Jr.s or Everth Cabreras)

Cantu(12 HR .265)Zaun(.280 1hr)
Frandsen(.220 good defense)
Denorfia(.280 8HR)
Patterson (.320 1hr)
would be a decent bench.
I probably overpredicted some of them(Not Hawpe, Hundley, Hudson, Venable, or Maybin)

Peak Stats: 2.34 ERA 2-4 8 SV
Padres stats: AVG 3.42 ERA 4-2 3 SV 4 years
TY: 3.27 ERA 7-4 100 ip
This years RULE 5 draftee will have to make the club and hope Cory Luebke loses the 5th starter job, he is a decent pitcher and is a Relief Pitcher. He should make the club out of spring training.

Bits and Pieces: Qualls, Zaun, Tuscon, Spring Invites, Minor league signings, and Hoffman, Beltre

·         The Padres are close to adding two more pieces to the fold as they appear close to signing RHP Chad Qualls and C Gregg Zaun to one year deals. Zaun will back up Nick Hundley and maybe challenge him for the job. Qualls will be a middle relief pitcher and look to rebound from a career worst year, he was acquired by Arizona as a prime part of the Jose Valverde deal before being dealt for a PTBNL to Tampa Bay, his deal is supposedly one year two million with a club option.(PREDICTIONS: Qualls-3.29 ERA 2-2, Zaun-.279 8HR 34RBI)
·         The Padres invited 20 players to spring training including top prospects Anthony Rizzo and Casey Kelly
·         The Padres made  three minor transactions: acquiring C Rob Johnson, Signing Utility Man Kevin Frandsen (called it) and C Guillermo Quiroz
·         Super Star Adrian Beltre signed a massive contract with Texas making Micheal Young the most overpaid and best utility man ever.
·         Trevor Hoffman, debatably the best Padre ever and all-time saves leader(601), has retired and took a job in the Padres front office.
·         I’d like to take a moment of silence in remembrance of those who passed away in the Tuscon shooting over the weekend.
·         Best wishes to  Gaby Giffords and her family along with the Green family
