· The Padres are close to adding two more pieces to the fold as they appear close to signing RHP Chad Qualls and C Gregg Zaun to one year deals. Zaun will back up Nick Hundley and maybe challenge him for the job. Qualls will be a middle relief pitcher and look to rebound from a career worst year, he was acquired by Arizona as a prime part of the Jose Valverde deal before being dealt for a PTBNL to Tampa Bay, his deal is supposedly one year two million with a club option.(PREDICTIONS: Qualls-3.29 ERA 2-2, Zaun-.279 8HR 34RBI)
· The Padres invited 20 players to spring training including top prospects Anthony Rizzo and Casey Kelly
· The Padres made three minor transactions: acquiring C Rob Johnson, Signing Utility Man Kevin Frandsen (called it) and C Guillermo Quiroz
· Super Star Adrian Beltre signed a massive contract with Texas making Micheal Young the most overpaid and best utility man ever.
· Trevor Hoffman, debatably the best Padre ever and all-time saves leader(601), has retired and took a job in the Padres front office.
· I’d like to take a moment of silence in remembrance of those who passed away in the Tuscon shooting over the weekend.
· Best wishes to Gaby Giffords and her family along with the Green family
Bell for long term?
